Guidance Notes
A person who is aged 18 or over, living alone in a property, may be entitled to have their Council Tax liability discounted by 25%. However, we may need to establish where someone's main home is before making this decision. If you or someone who normally lives with you works away from home or has more than one home, we will need some further information before we can award any discount.
You should apply for a discount when you first become entitled. We will not usually backdate a discount unless you have a very good reason for not applying at the right time and can provide documentary evidence to support your application. It is clearly stated on all Council Tax bills that you must tell us within 21 days of any changes that affect the amount of Council Tax you pay.
Please do not use this form to notify us of a death in your household. In those circumstances please go to Tell Us Once and complete the form on the gov.uk website. Only if you are unable to complete that form should you continue here.
